Warehouse Safety: 5 Tips

Safety in the warehouse is of course extremely important. Heavy pieces and materials are often stacked at a high height, and then have to be taken from their location with the necessary knowledge and tact. Dutch health and safety legislation sets clear obligations when it comes to maintaining safety in the warehouse. The ARBO training center therefore offers many courses to train employees to the right level. With these tips you keep the level of safety in the warehouse sufficient to be able to work safely and responsibly.
1. An aerial work platform certificate
There are of course dozens of much-needed tools in the warehouse that provide support to employees. These aids must be able to be controlled properly and responsibly. One of the first steps is therefore training the employees with, among other things, a cherry picker certificate . But also think of aids such as a forklift truck and other vehicles. All these vehicles will have to be driven by certified employees.
2. Make enough space
Sufficient space is essential for a safe warehouse. Tools and vehicles must have room to be moved, and all loads must be able to be transported with extra clearance. Large, spacious halls not only provide an overview, but also provide free movement space for employees and emergency vehicles.
3. Maintains a system
A clear system in storage is not only important to be able to work efficiently; it is also essential for a safe warehouse. Keeps track of all stored goods in a clear management system so that employees know exactly where to find specific items and materials. This way there is no need for unnecessary lifting.
4. Maintain the level of basic procedures
Every employee working in a warehouse must be familiar with the basic procedures. Not only driving vehicles, but also correct lifting and moving is important to keep an eye on safety and prevent possible injuries or accidents.
5. Safety clothing and accessories
Do you have employees working in the warehouse as standard? Then it is important that they are provided with the correct safety clothing and accessories. Think of reinforced work shoes (for example with steel toes), but also gloves, specific work clothing and possibly even glasses and helmets. Depending on the fabrics and materials used, it may be that even more specific safety clothing is required to work safely.
