Alaeras Places at Five Ventures Entrepreneurial Business Competition

Alaeras finished third out of 37 entries in UNC Charlotte’s annual Five Ventures Entrepreneurial Business Competition. The finals were held at the Barnhardt Student Activities Center on campus in front of 200 investors and entrepreneurs. “The outstanding results of this competition solidify our belief that powder nasal vaccines for developing countries represent hope for millions of people around the world”, said Alaeras CEO, John Denny. “We are excited to develop a rotavirus vaccine and we are looking at other vaccines to add to this platform technology. GSK pledges to place vaccine patents for tropical diseases into free pool

GSK has pledged to make available many drugs for tropical disease in a free pool. The patent pool for neglected diseases could be a huge opportunity for Alaeras as we plan to reformulate vaccines into a dry powder for our proprietary intranasal inhaler. Dry powder vaccines would be a huge advantage in countries where constant refrigeration is difficult or cost prohibitive. In addition to our rotavirus vaccine, the announcement by GSK could increase our portfolio to diseases such as TB, malaria, and dengue fever.

Alaeras Announces New Products

Alaeras, a new drug delivery company located in Cary, NC has announced it has started work on two novel drug delivery systems. The first product is a disposable, unit dose, dry powder inhaler that is targeted to deliver vaccines efficiently at a cost that rivals syringes. Testing will begin early next year. The second product is a next generation nebulizer that delivers liquid medications in a soft, easy to breathe mist. Both products are designed as a platform for a variety of treatments, such as asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and pain management.
